“As parents we want nothing more than close connected relationships with our kids and for them to go out confidently and compassionately into the world. We work hard everyday to make our kids lives good. But parenting brings a few challenges!”
Rachel offers six-session Building Emotional Understanding courses both in person and over the phone, gives talks and offers one-on-one parenting consultations. She is a Certified Instructor and online discussion group moderator for Hand in Hand Parenting and is a rotating board member for the not-for-profit organisation Parenting by Connection Australia. She also writes about parenting at www.likeripples.com.
“We all deserve support and appreciation for the good work we do caring for our children. We all need information and inspiration to help us nurture those bonds day in, day out. I think we are lucky to be raising our kids now, with all the knowledge we have about how our brains and emotions work. My personal experience, along with the training and studying I’ve done, has opened my eyes to importance of strong healthy relationships and repairing connection when it’s broken. I enjoy giving others the chance to hear about these ideas and support parents gain skills that can help build a connected family life. This in turn keeps me immersed in these concepts and using them in my own family. I’ve set up www.likeripples.com to share what I’ve learnt and what I’m learning.”
Rachel believes the work we do as parents is vital. “We are sewing the seed for the future. I believe we can make a radical difference in the world by raising children who feel loved and listened to. Children who feel connected and appreciated can think well, they can be kind, stand up for justice and care about others and world around them. I believe the details of each day make a profound difference for the future: our children’s quality of life, our grand children’s happiness and ultimately the wellbeing being of our planet. Despite the fact it sounds a bit corny, I really do believe that together we can build a peaceful loving world one family at a time.
Born and raised in Britain Rachel now lives on the Far South Coast of NSW, Australia with her partner and their two young boys. Prior to having children, she spent most of her working life setting up and managing community based projects, many of which involved working with children and young people.
